In October 2006, before a sellout crowd at the Santa Barbara Arlington Theatre, Kinko’s founder Paul Orfalea and Former President Bill Clinton joined on stage for a far-reaching conversation on “Leadership for the Global Future.”
Hosted by the Orfalea Foundations, and moderated by Thomas Tighe, President & CEO of Direct Relief International, the event served to inaugurate the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition, Former President Clinton used the afternoon to publicly acknowledge the Orfalea Family Foundation for its recent contribution of $300,000 to the Clinton Global Initiative.
Taking prepared questions from several of the 600 UC Santa Barbara students who received free tickets to the event, Orfalea and Clinton engaged the audience with 90-minutes of their unique perspectives on philanthropy and their hopeful outlook for the state of world affairs.
In addition, the pair discussed their thoughts on the growing role of non-governmental organizations in addressing global issues of disaster relief, ethnic strife, the spread of HIV/AIDS, hunger, poverty, and environmental degradation.
